What Exactly is Waterproofing?
Waterproofing is the process of making an object or structure waterproof or water-resistant so that it remains relatively unaffected by water or resisting the ingress of water under specified conditions. Such items may be used in wet environments.
Water-resistant and waterproof often refer to resistance to penetration of water in its liquid state and possibly under pressure, whereas damp proof refers to resistance to humidity or dampness. Permeation of water vapour through a material or structure is reported as a moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR).

What waterproofing is the Best?
There are many good waterproofing products on the market in South Africa. Many are very good and many are no good at all when it comes to durability, quality and overall performance.
WHAT MAKES WATERPROOFING GOOD OR BAD?
Well, waterproofing that does not live up to its claimed guarantee is the worst of them all. Many products claim long guarantees yet seldom live up to their expectations, especially in the harsh South African Climate. Always ask for industry approved waterproofing as a start. If the product you are considering does not carry any lab tested standards and is not approved by an independent research and testing facility, that should be your first RED LIGHT.
The second question one should ask when selecting a waterproofing service provider is "are they affiliated with any waterproofing association?" - this is critical. If they have no affiliations this should be your second RED LIGHT and you should possibly consider alternative providers. Most if not all waterproofing associations abide by a code of conduct, that way you will be assured that the contractor you choose is reputable and honest.
